GPDIS, a distribution centre group wholesaling white goods (domestic appliances), brown goods (Hi-Fi, sound systems, video equipment, digital), IT and multimedia, telephones, etc. to retailers, is opening a new distribution centre in Couternon, Côte d’Or, on June 1st.
Burgundy : a strategic location
Last August, Codal, the group’s Mulhouse-based member, decided to open a new warehouse and distribution centre in Burgundy, so as to be nearer some of its clients. Burgundy’s geographic situation makes it a strategic location for responding to demand from central-eastern France, because it means the company no longer needs to cross the whole of Burgundy to deliver orders.
Invest Burgundy – an effective network
The company was first attracted to Beaune, a move suggested by the Agence Beaune Saône-Auxois Développement, but in the end, Codal decided to include a "Cash and Carry" with the new warehouse, and, at the request of the group’s management team, decided to open the new centre in the considerably larger Greater Dijon area. The ARD (Regional Development Agency) was then contacted by the Beaune agency, a member of the Invest Burgundy network of local economic development partner organisations, and asked to support the company with its project. The company required a vast building covering at least 2000 m2 to house its main business as a wholesaler, i.e. warehousing. Burgundy Development Agency had four proposals to offer, one in collaboration with Dijon agency Capp21, also a member of Invest Burgundy. After visits to the sites had been organised by the ARD, the company opted for the former Hygena site, managed by BNP Paribas Real Estate, as the best place for its new distribution centre. The help and guidance received by the company concerning its plan to open a new centre is a good example of effective collaboration between members of the Invest Burgundy network.
